Most of my maps are for much bigger cities than Great Yarmouth. But with semi-regular visits to see family and friends in GY, it’s interesting to see how the pub landscape has changed over the last twenty years.
As a result this is the only one of my maps to include a layer featuring pubs which are no longer open, as well as a layer for pubs which are not explicitly recommended for a visit. Feel free to switch those layers off if you wish!
I must give a recommendation for the best pubs to visit in Great Yarmouth and the surrounding area…if you get a chance, make sure you visit these pubs:
Great Yarmouth:
- Blackfriars Tavern – POTY and Cider POTY the year. A fantastic local pub originally built for Lacons, now run as a freehouse with a fantastic range of cask ale and cider. Also brew their own ales!
- The Red Herring – locals pub just off the seafront, usually serving 4 real ales and real cider.
- Tombstone – quirky wild west (sort of) themed pub serving up to 12 real ales and a wide range of real cider
Gorleston:
- Thirsty Crow Taproom – modern craft beer and ale bar in a former cafe/shop.
- Dock Tavern – excellent local pub serving up to 6 real ales
- New Entertainer – large corner pub with a wide range of local and national real ales, with a good selection of real ciders
- Oddfellows Arms – quirky local pub serving local real ales
